After all, getting lost in a good book, whether it's Wuthering Heights or a Sophie Kinsella novel, is a favored pastime for many. What are your favourite reading spots outside of the home? These are moments of boredom, and the natural instinct of people these days is to whip out the smartphone, and even I’m guilty for that. But as I find myself wanting to read more books per year I’ve discovered that idle moments like these are the best time to get through that one book you want to finish.
Read a book after a long day while sipping your favorite drink. You’ll feel right at home with the comfy leather chairs and low lighting. However, keep in mind that it can get crowded, so it’s best to go early in the morning on a weekday. If you forget your paperback or hardcover book, ebook, magazine, or newspaper, several of the major chains even provide Wi-Fi or free libraries that you can use. If you’re a reader, it’s critical to have a diverse selection of books to choose from.
Places We Read (and Why We Read There)
It may not be one of the quietest locations to study in NYC, but it’s undoubtedly the coziest. You can spend the entire day studying while sipping your coffee. New York Public Library, conveniently positioned between Grand Central and Times Square. It’s perfect for studying for a long time if you want to stay focused. There’s nothing more comforting than curling up in bed with a good book.

There’s free Wi-Fi, and most of the people there are there to study during the day. The café has a low-key modern ambiance, and the food and drinks on offer are delicious. Last year while Christmas shopping at the mall with my husband, I stood outside of a store reading a book I had brought just for that purpose. And reading on the beach is heaven on earth as far as I’m concerned.

However, this activity can get overwhelming at times, especially if you are in the middle of a semester. Understand that not all beaches are warm, let me specify a warm, sunny beach. I love to hear the waves rushing in and out, have a cold drink by my side, and lose myself in a light-hearted book. These books go well with a big glass of wine or a cold beer.

Even though many of the rooms are quite huge with beautiful ceilings, it’s still a quiet place where you can get the peace you need to read your book.

The seating is more limited than other options but even standing and reading for 15 minutes was incredibly restorative. I read in the laundry room while I wait for my clothes to run through their cycle, since that part of our apartment building gets great sunlight and is fairly quiet/private. The magic hour is also one damn fine time to read in a park. That last snap of sunshine across the horizon makes everything richer, and, indeed, adds a little more magic to the proceedings.

This is a great time to fit in some reading, so I’ve got into the habit of carrying books with me when I know I’ll be somewhere with a waiting room. When at home, the bed and the couch are definitely prime reading spots. I've never fallen asleep while reading but if it's late at night, I do get drowsy. So, a popular place I left out, and I did so largely on purpose, was the beach.

That doesn’t mean you also can’t enjoy staying inside a sunscreen porch or sunroom while listening to the roar of the waves. Take a day off where you can rent a place or sit by the water with your favorite book in hand. A person who loves to read needs the perfect place to read. There are plenty of areas that provide comfortable reading, no matter if you’re a part-time or full-time reader. The great thing about some of these spots is that they’re great for all types of readers. Yes, bookstores are wonderful places for reading through some books that are close to your heart.

You get to feel and smell old books in a large area that provides several hours of reading.
